Objective To investigate the expression of metastasis suppressor genes nm23-H1 and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGFβ1) in human esophageal carcinoma (EC) and their clinicopathological significance. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to study the expression of metastasis suppressor genes nm23-H1 and TGFβ1 in 56 human esophageal carcinomas. Results The expressions of nm23-H1 and TGFβ1 were closely related to the TNM stage, cell differentiation and esophageal cancer metastasis (P <0.05). Conclusions The expression of nm23-H1 and TGFβ1 genes is also decreased, indicating the metastasis and poor prognosis of esophageal cancer.
