A new two-dimensional composite model of diagenesis and sedimentation is used to explain the evolution of simplely accretionary carbonate platform under glacial sea-level fluctuations. This model takes into account the different hydrological bands of outcrops and climate constraints within the platform and provides a framework for simulating diagenesis at a specific rate. The simulation provides a clear sequence of diagenetic zones. Because of the lateral continuity of the diagenetic zone and the apparent evolution of diagenesis from the interior to the margin of the platform, it is easily identified. However, the spatial combination between the unconformity that indicates causation and the underlying diagenetic zone is erroneous. The interaction between the high amplitude sea level change and the basement subsidence has resulted in the history of diagenetic records and complex diagenesis that can not be explained by traditional methods of stratigraphy and sedimentology.
