今年4月3日,美国商务部部长罗恩·布朗在克罗地亚南部地区因飞机失事遇难。一个星期后的4月12日,克林顿总统出人意料地宣布任命原美国贸易代表米基·坎特为新的商务部长。克林顿在任命仪式上说“从未有别的贸易代表的工作成就超过米基·坎特”,“米基过去充当恶人,布朗当好人。我想我们该给他机会换换角色,当个好人”。坎特则盛赞布朗生前所取得的成就,并发誓“将继续他未竞的事业”。
On April 3 this year, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown died in a plane crash in the southern part of Croatia. A week later, on April 12, President Clinton unexpectedly announced the appointment of former U.S. Trade Representative Mickey Kanter as his new Minister of Commerce. Clinton said at the ceremony that “no other trade representative has ever succeeded Mickey Canter”, “Mickey used to be a wicked man and Brown is a good man, and I think we should give him a chance to change roles and be a good man ”. Canter praised Brown’s achievements during his lifetime, and vowed “to continue his unsung competition.”
