Objective To investigate the cognitive impairment and histomorphology of gerbils after 15 min forebrain ischemia reperfusion. Methods The model of 15 min forebrain ischemia-reperfusion was made by bilateral common carotid artery ligation. The memory ability (long-term memory) and re-learning ability (short-term memory) At the same time, histological observation of brain tissue. Results In the 15 min forebrain ischemia gerbils, significant learning and memory dysfunction was observed in the chronic phase and nerve cell injury including the entire hippocampus and somatosensory cortex was observed. Conclusion Cerebral ischemia 15 min can cause severe histological damage and lead to chronic learning and memory impairment. This model will contribute to the study of vascular dementia.
