明清两代是中国彩瓷高度发展时期,彩瓷的迅猛发展为中国的瓷业史增添了新的篇章。这一时期单是景德镇的彩瓷就达数十种,其中著名的有青花、五彩、粉彩、珐琅彩和斗彩,以及各种色地彩、素三彩等。瓷器品种和装饰内容之十富,又为彩瓷生产开拓了一个更为广阔的天地。就“五彩”而言,经常提及的是“釉上五彩”和“青花五彩”,而到了清代末期宣统年间新创制了一种“釉下五彩”,由于传世精品少见,不被人们重视。
