This summary material is the seventh in a series of reports by the National Science Foundation every two years. The purpose of this publication is to summarize statistics on the structure of the science and technology potential in the United States in order to provide U.S. scientists with the intelligence they need to best allocate scientific funding. The report is divided into eight chapters: international comparison and exchange of science and technology; research grant from the United States; scientists and technicians; research work in the industrial sector; research work in the academic sector; science and mathematics education before higher education (this section was first included in the report) ; Public opinion on science and technology; the most important scientific and technological achievements. The report includes 137 statistical tables to confirm the conclusions of the report.
