为了展现改革以来我国农村和农、林、牧、副、渔各条战线的崭新风貌,歌颂当代农民艰苦奋斗、开拓进取、无私奉献的精神,活跃农民文化生活,促进社会主义精神文明建设,广播电影电视部、文化部、农业部、林业部、民政部及中国音乐家协会定于4月至10月在全国组织一次群众性的《当代农民之歌》征歌活动,并于中华人民共和国成立42周年之际在北京举行《当代农民之歌》获奖作品颁奖仪式及大型演唱
