袁同礼早期的图书馆生涯,由清华学校图书馆工作、赴美留学及赴欧考察、回国后在北大工作等阶段组成,大致时间为1916年至1926年。在清华学校图书馆时,他对李大钊毫无保留地传授经验,促进了李大钊对北大图书馆的改革,他以个人和清华学校图书馆名义,向北大图书馆捐赠图书,以实际行动改进北大图书馆的藏书结构。在留美期间,主动介绍北大情况,促进许多机关团体和北大图书馆开展学术、文献交流,承担联系美国国会图书馆赠送北大全套目录,在美国学生中,开展北大图书馆建设的募捐活动等。回国后,除在图书馆工作外,还创建了图书馆课程的教学工作,为北大图书馆的建设作出了贡献。
Yuan Tongli’s early career in library was composed of Tsinghua School Library, going to the United States for study abroad and studying in Europe, and returned to work at Peking University. The approximate period was from 1916 to 1926. At Tsinghua School Library, he imparted Li Dazhao unreservedly to impart his experience and promoted Li Dazhao’s reform of the Peking University Library. He donated books to the Peking University Library in the name of individuals and Tsinghua school libraries, and took practical actions to improve Peking University’s books Library’s book collection structure. During his stay in the United States, he took the initiative to introduce the situation of Peking University and promoted the exchange of academic and literary materials among many organ groups and Peking University Libraries. It is responsible for contacting the U.S. Library of Congress with a full list of Peking University students and launching fundraising activities for Peking University Library among American students. After returning home, in addition to working in the library, but also to create a library course teaching, Peking University Library has made its contribution to the building.
