Prostaglandins (PGs) are a group of fatty acids that are chemically related but have different, sometimes opposite, biological and pharmacological effects on various systems of the body. Although the physiological role of prostaglandins has not been elucidated, their diverse and potent effects, as well as their ubiquity in tissues and biological fluids, suggest that PG may play an important role in cellular function. It is known that certain pathological conditions are associated with changes in the tissue concentration of PG, suggesting that PG may be involved in a variety of disease processes. There are many biochemical, metabolic, clinical and pharmacological data on PG. This review summarizes the roles and clinical applications of PG and its new analogues in the reproductive process.
