Only by reducing carbon emissions will we be able to cope with climate change, but we can not ignore another crucial program: carbon capture. Today, more than 85% of the world’s energy comes from fossil fuels. Despite the increasing use of these fuels by centuries, such fuels are still abundant. Strong economic and political interests are organized around fossil-fuel energy systems, just as complex social arrangements (for example, think about the dependence of a rapidly expanding city on traditional power grids). These realities are a tribute to the international efforts of more than 20 years to free the world from oil, coal and natural gas. This does not mean that we should stop such attempts; the conversion to carbon-free energy is still unrealistic when it comes to the mitigation of climate change. And now you have to admit that at any given time, “drilling oil, man, drilling oil!” Is actually an efficient strategy that continues to bring many cheap energy benefits.
