To us today, when we look back at the blind self-confidence of French intellectuals in the 18th century, we can see that they were intoxicated with the wisdom of mankind and defied the shadow behind the sun, and the thought of enlightenment did not really unfold. The result of the excessive pursuit of reason and science requires us to go beyond the glittering “Enlightenment” to re-evaluate “Enlightenment.” At the same time, if we try to save the legacy of enlightenment for future generations, we need the spirit of criticism and the transcendence of anthropocentrism. Only beyond the arrogance of reason can dialogue be held on a global scale with a view to rejuvenating the world filled with ideological autocracy, dictatorship and clichés. Here, some words in the period of the Enlightenment in China may open the way for thinking and thus have “consciousness” in the blind faith in the supremacy of human intelligence.
