Ca2 + and Mg2 + are a pair of related cations, which play an important role in the pathophysiological changes of cerebral ischemia. In this study, we measured the content of Ca2 + and Mg2 + in mitochondria after cerebral ischemia in rabbits and found that the content of Ca2 + in mitochondria increased obviously and the content of Mg2 + decreased obviously in early ischemia. The results suggest that the decrease of Mg2 + / Ca2 + ratio is of great significance in ischemic brain damage.
