In the right bank of the Three Gorges underground power station, the intermittent joints of the surrounding rock are developed. To limit the deformation and failure of the rock mass, anchors (cables) should be used for reinforcement. How to appraise correctly the extension and judgment of the damage evolution of surrounding rock in tunnel after excavation is very important. The constitutive relations and damage evolution equations of the jointed jointed fractured rock mass obtained from the damage mechanics method are used to evaluate the stability and deformation behavior of such rock mass
