The effect of Panax ginseng extract(con-taining 40% saponin)on insulin and corticoste-roid receptors in vivo in rats was observed.Theeffect of GS on insulin receptors of bone marrowin mouse showed that after medication of 0.1g/kg i.g.for 12 days the number of insulin re-ceptors increased from 407±46 to 1038±84in the older group(1.5 years old). The effectof GS on corticosteroid receptors in the homo-genate of rat brain was shown by a significantreduction in the number of glucocorticoid rece-ptors from 289 to 130 fmol/mg protein.Theseresults could account for the therapeutic effectof GS in diabetes.
