无论砂岩成分还是盆地沉降曲线均显示吐鲁番盆地经受了多期次的构造叠加改造作用.盆地发育初期为弧后盆地,形成于晚古生代本区岩浆活动之后.在最初热沉降作用中即在晚二叠世和早三叠世,发生了快速下降作用.从中三叠世到第三纪,盆地发生了多次挠曲沉降.引人注目的加速挠曲沉降时期主要集中在晚三叠世/早侏罗世,晚侏罗世,侏罗纪末/白垩纪初以及白垩纪末/早第三纪,分别代表了羌塘地块、冈底斯地块及印度板块与欧亚板块相继碰撞对本区的影响.在砂岩岩屑成分、地球化学成分上表现出几个大的突变.盆地也由晚古生代末的弧后盆地演变为中生代的前陆盆地和新生代的山间盆地.
Both the sandstone composition and the subsidence curve of the basin show that the Turpan Basin has undergone multi-stage structural superimposition and remolding.At the early stage of basin development, it was a back-arc basin formed after the magmatic activity in the Late Paleozoic.At the initial thermal deposition, The rapid decline took place in the Late Triassic and Early Triassic, with multiple flexure subsidences occurring in the basin from the Middle Triassic to the Tertiary. The notable period of accelerated flexural subsidence mainly concentrated in the Late Triassic / Early Jurassic, Late Jurassic, Late Jurassic / Early Cretaceous and Late Cretaceous / Early Tertiary, respectively represent the Qiangtang block, the Gangdise block and the collision between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate The area shows several large mutations in the lithic components and geochemical composition of the sandstone.The basin also evolved into a Mesozoic foreland basin and Cenozoic mountain basin from the Late Paleozoic backarc basin.
