Formal exchanges between China and Japan finally reopened their doors in the second half of the 19th century after prolonged freezing. Because at the beginning the contacts were more one-way in the beginning, the economic activities of the Japanese fine arts circle at the then Chinese art center played a leading role in the Sino-Japanese contacts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This article will elaborate and analyze some of the current models of cultural intervention and financial investment and their impact on the art fields in the two countries.
