In this workshop, Prof. Patrick Wallis from the Department of Economic History of London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) named “Emergence of Modern Modern Economic Growth in Modern Times: A Comparative Study of Western Europe and China” as Two reports, entitled “Formation of European Inward Capital before the Industrial Revolution: Institutions and Practices” and “From a Trade Perspective: An Analysis of the Social and Geographical Mobility of Citizens and Guilds in Early Modern Europe.” In both lectures, Professor Patrick Wallis and his collaborators questioned the role of guilds in the traditional view and attempted to study the mobility of apprentices in guilds. The main research question of Professor Patrick Wallis and his team is: Does the guild have any restrictions on the mobility of early English social handicraftsmen?
