Objective: To investigate the changes of plasma endothelin, atrial natriuretic peptide, calcium and sodium in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and its clinical significance. Methods: The levels of endothelin, atrial natriuretic peptide, calcium and sodium in 32 HIE children were determined by radioimmunoassay and compared with normal neonates. Results: The levels of plasma endothelin and atrial natriuretic peptide in children with acute HIE were significantly higher than those in the control group, while the levels of serum calcium and sodium were lower than those in the control group. With the recovery of endothelin and atrial natriuretic peptide, rise. Conclusion: Endothelin and atrial natriuretic peptide are involved in the pathophysiological process of HIE, and the determination of endothelin and atrial natriuretic peptide are helpful for the diagnosis of early HIE.
