Cognitive translatology is an emerging edge subject that integrates “Cognitive Science + Cognitive Linguistics ” with “Translation Studies ”. Among them, the concept of understanding refers to the ability of people to understand the same scene in different ways. It mainly includes five items: detailed degree, jurisdiction, background, perspective and highlighting. Based on the five content theories, this thesis makes a comparative study of the four Chinese versions of Rashomon and explores how the concept of understanding is embodied in the translation practice of Chinese and Japanese novels. The results show that due to the difference of cognitive experience, different translators do different treatments in the process of translation, which leads to their unique features and humanistic subjective spirit.
