美国心理学家、哈佛大学教授布鲁纳说:“发现不限于那种寻求人类尚未知晓之事物的行为,正确地说,发现包括着用自己的头脑亲自获得知识的一切形式。”在他看来,掌握研究方法,养成以探究态度为特征的“探究—发现”教学模式。它的优点在于:首先,由于学生要亲自发现事物的关系和规律,他们往往会形成一定的兴奋感和自信心,从而提高学习的动力水平;其次,能使学生掌握发现的方法,培养提出问题、解决问题的能力和创新精神;再次,由于学生自己把知识系统化、结构化,就能更好地理解、掌握和记忆所学内容,也能更好地运用所学知识。
