The ancient Ryukyu State (now Okinawa Prefecture of Japan), an island nation on the southeastern Pacific in China, dates back to ancient times. According to the “Yuan Anzhu” hidden in Putian City Museum in Okinawa, Japan, it is possible to argue that the tribal regime of the Ryukyu Islands was a tribute to China during the Yuan Dynasty (Proceedings of the Fifth Sino-Ryu Historical Association of Academic Relations, p. 59). However, the establishment of formal state diplomatic relations between China and Ryukyu was the forced annexation of Ryukyu by force by Japan in the five years of Hongwu from the Ming Dynasty (1372) to the fifth year of Guangxu (1879). The close contacts between China and the Ryukyu for more than 500 years made Ryukyu’s culture and arts deeply influenced by China.
