There is ample evidence that changes in the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) enhance pro-atherosclerotic properties through the formation of early atherosclerotic lesions. The authors studied the inhibition of copper-induced changes in the oxidation of human LDL by the addition of rubraside and carflathoflavin from Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don Fil. LDL and CuSO4 were co-cultured at 37°C and cultured.
