BASF announced its third-quarter results at the end of October: sales in the third quarter increased 2% from the second quarter but down 19% from a year earlier; pre-tax income excluding exceptional items in the third quarter was 9% higher than in the second quarter, But lower than 20% over the same period of 2008. All operating units contribute to achieving positive returns. BASF’s strong cash flow increases the company’s financial resources and gives it the ability to reduce its debt.
