What effect will a U.S. businessman die in on the Sino-U.S. Relations? The Crohncier incident in December 1922 provided us an analytical example. In the presence of the U.S. consul, U.S. merchant Kemen was shot dead at a Chinese soldier in Zhangjiakou. As to the cause of the incident, both China and the United States have taken the second word and the truth of the incident remains to be further studied. The outcome of the incident is that the United States has exhausted its tactics and eventually its demands have been met. The case reveals several interesting aspects of Sino-U.S. Relations in the 1920s. First of all, the issue in this case lies in the dispute between China and the United States. Second, the “pro-American” tendencies of Chinese diplomats play an important role in the so-called “Diplomatic Diplomacy.” Third, the warlords’ politics behind the Beijing government did contain “North Sea Diplomacy.” In actual diplomatic negotiations, vigorous military control of diplomatic decision-making, and diplomats, however, just deal with it.
