An approximate model for heat dissipation and entropy variation of the Earth is given under the consideration of continental accretion and plate tectonics. The model shows that throughout geological history the flourishing of life occurred during stable entropy periods, while the extinction of complex life occurred during the periods of rapid entropy increasing.
