玛格丽特·米切尔在《飘》中,以南北战争为背景,着力刻画了郝思嘉这一南方种植园主的千金小姐逐渐成长为一名独立叛逆的新女性的过程。生活在南方的少女郝思嘉从小深受南方传统文化的熏陶,可在她的血液中流淌着野性的叛逆因素。随着战争的蔓延以及生活环境的恶化,郝思嘉的叛逆个性越来越丰满和鲜明。在一系列的挫折中,她的女性意识逐渐觉醒,大胆向男性社会挑战,逐渐摆脱了传统礼教的束缚以及对男性的依附地位,成为19世纪美国社会名副其实的乱世佳人。
In “Gone with the Wind”, Margaret Mitchell exemplifies the process by which Scarlett, the daughter of the South planter owner, grew up to become an independent rebellious new woman in the context of the Civil War. Scarlett, a girl living in the south, was influenced by the traditional culture of the South since her childhood and could have wild rebellious elements in her blood. With the spread of the war and the deteriorating living environment, Scarlett’s rebellious personality is more and more fullness and distinctness. In a series of setbacks, her female consciousness gradually awakened, boldly challenge the male community, and gradually get rid of the shackles of traditional ethics and male dependency, becoming the real beauty of the 19th century American society Gone with the Wind.
