Since the beginning of this year, the frequent droughts around the world, as well as the mountain fires and famine associated therewith, have drawn the attention of the international community. How to deal with extreme weather and climate change and ensure food security has become a serious issue in the field of disaster prevention and reduction in agricultural meteorology all over the world. From February 16 to February 17, the “International Symposium on Drought and Extreme Temperature: Preparedness and Management of Sustainable Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” was held in Beijing. Representatives of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and a dozen countries including China, France, the United States, Brazil and Australia have focused on the response strategies for disaster preparedness and mitigation in extreme weather conditions. For a long time, the exploration and practice of how to conserve water resources and fight the drought have never ceased from the driest continent of Australia to the deserted Israel. In this issue, we will introduce the practices of several countries to our readers for reference.
