诗意在山水画中的表现,与中国的传统文化背景有着很大的关联。山水画中的诗意是一种属于个人意识的抒发,而诗意的产生则正是由于这些特殊情状下个人意识的抒发,从而体现出特殊的审美意识和个人志趣。因而,山水画的诗意与个性有天然的相通之处。中国的文化体系是极为独特的,人的个性在这种环境下也有其特殊的发展状态。中国主流文化主要有儒、释、道三个方面组成,这三种文化中,儒提倡礼乐与伦理纲常,事实上形成了一种道德力量,规范了人的意志、行动,形成了社会遵从的准则与秩序。在三种文化中,儒较为积极主动一些,但这种积极主动也是“中庸”的,而非激烈的。自汉以来,除了几个短暂时期,儒一直是中国文化最主要的代表。
