The Boao Forum for Asia （BFA） Annual Conference will be held in Hainan from March 26 to 29， with the theme Shared Future， Concerted Action， and Common Development.
Since its establishment in 2001， the forum has developed into a platform for high-level dialogue of economic， social and environmental issues between political heavyweights， business magnates， and scholars from both Asia and around the world.
It has made positive contribution to pooling consensus in Asia， while promoting international cooperation and globalization and pushing forward the building of a community with a shared future for humanity， winning widespread attention around the world.
The multilateral trade system was challenged by populism and protectionism in 2018. Structural economic problems also have become a reality. All these cause uncertainties and volatility around the world.
Against such a backdrop， Chinese President Xi Jinping reassured the world that China holds a fi rm resolve and determination to deepen reform and opening up and safeguard the multilateral trade system at last year’s BFA， bringing a ray of hope to the gloomy global situation.
In spite of the challenges facing the global economy， Asia is still the fastest growing region， contributing more than 60 percent to world economic growth last year. Faced with the rise of anti-globalization and trade protectionism， Asian leaders have jointly voiced their fi rm support for economic globalization， trade and investment facilitation， and have actively promoted regional integration.
Globalization and free trade are the trends pertinent to global economic development and multilateralism； dialogue and cooperation are the aspirations of most countries； and openness and innovation are the undisputable routes for the sustainable development of globalization. The highly-anticipated BFA Annual Conference will offer an open and inclusive platform of discussion for participants. Due to the multicultural and interdisciplinary nature of the forum， it will bring together the wisdom of governments， enterprises， think tanks and media to source solutions.
In addition to in-depth discussions on areas such as the economy， finance and trade， the conference will also cover topics such as innovation， health， culture， education and the media， which are all integral to growth and development.
It is hoped participants will take joint action to safeguard globalization and multilateral trade in order to realize the common ideal of progress for all.
