Objective To investigate the effect of acute phase depression on the quality of life in patients with cerebral infarction. Methods Eighty-eight acute cerebral infarction patients who met the criteria of the study were divided into mild depression group (36 cases) and moderate depression group by “Zung Self-rating depression scale (SDS) (52 cases). Using the ”Health Status Questionnaire SF-36 (hereinafter referred to as SF-36)" to assess the quality of life of patients. Results In the eight dimensions of SF-36, the scores of physical health, physical pain, mental health, emotional status, energy and general health were significantly higher in the two groups than in the moderate depression group (P <0.05, 0.01, 0.001). Conclusions The degree of depression in patients with cerebral infarction is closely related to the quality of life of SF-36. The quality of life of patients with severe depression is poor.
