After the end of World War II, English for science and technology emerged with the continuous improvement of English in the field of science and technology and was introduced into China after the Cultural Revolution. However, college students are learning general English or scientific English, which triggered heated debates in the field of college English in the 1980s. As policymakers preferred the former and developed a Syllabus based on General English and CET-4 and CET-6, STEM ceased its development. Thirty years later, with the rapid development of science and technology in our country and the fact that English has become a common language in international academic exchanges, a serious fact has emerged: a university student who is unable to read international journals can not understand the latest research in this discipline and can not become A truly qualified college student (not to mention a top college student). International science English proficiency refers to the ability to acquire foreign language (reading) and exchange information (writing) in these international journals. In the new round of world-class universities and first-class discipline construction, S & T English will become the most practical and practical discipline in the whole foreign language teaching and even the whole ESP. Against this background, we must reevaluate the status of S & T English .
