过去,说起垂直绿化,爬山虎、常春藤等藤蔓类植物是想当然的当家主力。而近年上海园林科研所的科技人员大胆试用珊瑚树进行柱桩表面的垂直绿化,取得了栽后即见绿的美化效果。珊瑚树(Viburnum odoratissimum ker)为忍冬科荚迷属常绿中乔木强耐阴树种,以往多选作绿篱等等。1999年底,上海园林科研所受委托对位于长宁区的轻轨明珠线中山站下的4根柱桩进行装饰绿化,要求栽后即披绿装。
