Having specified the two remarkable features of China’s sociolinguistics, i.e. it gives prominence to its practicality and cultural background, the author considers it is a pity that Chinese sociolinguists failed to seize every opportunity to make investigations during the last 20 years of development and he points out that full-fledged use of internet to make easier, wider and more effective sociolinguistic investigation could be a remedy. He opposes the anticipation that English (or Chinese, or any other language) would be the dominant language in the world in the future.
