麝香是公麝腺囊的分泌物。麝香的分泌与公麝的年龄、体质、腺囊的大小、疾病、饲养方式、气候和内分泌等因素有密切的关系。了解这些因素和泌香的关系,掌握麝香分泌的规律,适时合理的饲养管理,是提高麝香产量的重要措施。一、原麝的年龄与泌香量的关系原麝的年龄与分泌麝香的能力有密切的关系。公麝半岁时,腺囊里开始分泌少量白色豆渣状的未成熟麝香,一岁左右,开始出现泌香盛期正常的生理反应:睾丸、阴囊水肿,腺囊肿胀下垂,跑香(香水或香味流出),淋尿,停食3—5天。以后,每年5—7月出现一次。这时分泌的未成熟麝香是乳黄色或灰褐色粘稠状物,经2—3个月,才能转化为咖啡
