绣球为虎耳草科八仙花属落叶灌木或小乔木。叶对生,卵形至卵状椭圆形,被星状毛。自然条件下6~7月开花,花于枝顶集成聚伞花序,边缘具白色中性花。花初开带绿色,后转为白色,具清香。绣球原产于我国华中和西南地区。喜阴湿,怕旱又怕涝,不耐寒,喜水肥充足的栽培环境和排水良好的土壤环境。绣球适应能力极强,是一种常见的庭院花卉,常用于庭院园林绿化工程中,有些中医药人员也将绣球用于入药。随着现代花卉产业的发展和人们对花卉消费的日趋精致化,绣球也被用于切花、精品盆栽。
