纳博科夫祖籍俄国,早年同家人离开俄国迁往欧洲。父亲被杀,靠政府的救济金生活,颠沛流离的生活使纳博科夫饱尝了人世间的沧桑,通过自己的刻苦钻研,掌握了英语、法语,这为他用英语写作,成为世界级作家奠定了坚实基础。纳博科夫赴巴黎后,步入了小说创作的职业生涯,先后出版了数篇小说如《眼睛》《黑暗中的笑声》《斩首之邀》《王、后、杰克》等。纳博科夫是一个多面手作家,他不仅撰写小说,还发表和出版了许多剧本和诗集,很快就蜚声欧洲文坛。1904年纳博科夫携全家赴美定居,先后出任康奈尔大学与哈佛大学的语言教授。这一生活经历为他创作撼世之作《洛丽塔》提供了素材,夯实了基础。
