Objective To investigate the correlation and clinical significance of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in IgA nephropathy (IgAN) tubulointerstitial lesions. Methods Thirty-three patients with IgAN underwent renal biopsy and were divided into three groups according to the degree of tubulointerstitial damage. Urinary α1-microglobulin (α1-MG), urinary retinal pigment (RBP) and urinary β2-microglobulin -MG), blood TGF-β1. Results The pathological types of IgA nephropathy correlated with the degree of interstitial damage. The levels of α1-MG, urinary RBP, urinary β2-MG and TGF-β1 in 43 IgAN patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P <0.01) Interstitial lesions were positively correlated with urinary α1-MG, urinary RBP, urinary β2-MG and blood TGF-β1 (P <0.01). Conclusion Blood TGF-β1 can be used as a reliable indicator of IgAN tubulointerstitial injury.
