作为文化人类学研究的重要对象,音乐这一文化现象一直受到关注。在社会科学之中,音乐也是诸研究的要点之一。民族学及民俗学在首开音乐研究之后,马克斯·韦伯将音乐纳入了社会学研究的范畴,并揭示了近代社会合理性的追求与西欧音乐形成的密切关联性。随着音乐人类学的出现,人们开始反思比较音乐学及音乐社会学诸理论,开始强调理性所不能涵盖的不同文化中人类身体的特殊感受,这使得对于音乐的认识更为立体化,同时也更加凸显出不同于西方音乐的民俗音乐的文化特殊性,这种特殊性也对民俗音乐学习提出了新的要求,形成了带有明显文化相对主义色彩的民俗音乐教育的新的特点。
