In view of the lack of an internationally recognized classification of mineral resources, this paper presents a new classification scheme. Based on the current classification of uranium resources used by NEA and the IAEA; (ii) the experience gained by the first author in prospecting for coal mines in third world countries; (iii) the publication of the 1989 report “Identifying mineral resources and Oceania Regulations of Mineral Reserves ”. This Recommendation discusses only the harmonization between the classification of existing resource estimates based on geological data and the classification of those studies that have been conducted with varying degrees of economic considerations (pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies). The existing NEA and IAEA uranium resource classifications have taken into account the economic viability of uranium resources and their production costs. Therefore, it should be possible to harmonize with other taxonomies. This recommendation should be seen as a tentative one for discussion by the body concerned with the classification of resources.
