The early immigrants of American were English Puritans who settled down in northeast part. Rough as the environment was, they believed that it could purify their mind. From 1607 to 1892, frontiers were pushed further west. They had been looking for a land of rich resources as well as a land of promise, opportunity and freedom. Actually they were in search for a better life. So individualism, self-reliance, and equality of opportunity have perhaps been the values closely associated with the frontier heritage of American. The greatness that the frontiers achieved, in a way, is due to their strong religions, which is so powerful that is beyond our understanding. Who know what miracles, they can achieve. There is a good example to prove this. It is religion that Moses led the Israelites out of their bondage in Egypt, and led the children of Israel out of the Egypt.
The population of the United States includes a large variety of ethnic groups coming from many races, nationalities, and religions. So it is well-known “melting pot”, which is easy to understand that Americans are tolerant. They are easier to accept new things, and adapt to this changeable society. In history, people from different countries in the world rushed to American three times. And three migrations make America strong. The first happened during 1820 -1860,“great human migration movement”, after Napoleon War, due to the serious unemployment in Europe, and the Chinese going to“Gold Rush”. The second happened the following twenty years between 1861 and 1880, post the Civil War, the industrialization booms. And the third is from 1881 to 1920, till then, the total population in America is 100 million.
Migrations changed American fate, these three migrations, in American history, not only had profound influence on the formation of the American characters, but also made the country develop rapidly in short more than 100 years, and became the number one economic nation in place of the Great Britain, moreover, laid solid foundation for being super country in the late future.
They brought their own culture to American and later on different cultures were mixed together. Thus the unique American culture is formed — Americans hold particular cultural identity, yet a common cultural values. Furthermore, the “melting pot” makes different elements get together and each of them matches well — such as, immigrant cultures, political and social patterns and attitudes, varied academic and religious backgrounds, as well as their ethnic arts, sports, holidays, festivals, and foods — creates a colorful life.
The great diversity of ethnic backgrounds has produced religious pluralism.Any individuals are equal before God and they believe they can communicate directly to God so they can share the same idea.
Freedom is the most that Americans desire. Free religion, equal rights are the constant aspiration for each individual.
