Alice Murdoch (1919-1999) was one of the most influential writers in the history of British literature in the 20th century. The dual identities of philosophers and novelists enabled her works to incorporate deep philosophical and literary perspectives into their creations. Murdoch’s “Black Prince,” published in 1973, is one of its masterpieces. From the perspective of Sartre’s philosophical thinking, “Black Prince” is undoubtedly of great help to understand Murdoch’s writing techniques and philosophical thoughts. This article discusses Murdoch’s succession and surpassing of existentialism from three aspects: the searching for and understanding of oneself, the thinking of human freedom, and the development of Sartre ’s responsibility ".
