Shenzhen Airlines said on March 6 that the company’s former president Li Kun was put under investigation by the public security department. Fan Cheng, party secretary of Shenzhen Airlines, took Li Kun’s post.
Li Kun was born in 1960 in Kunming, Yunnan. He got his master degree in administration project from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and MBA from Macau University of Science and Technology. He used to be the vice general manager of China Southern Airlines and in 2005 he moved to Shenzhen Airlines.
When Li served in China Southern Airlines, he helped to introduce the first electronic air tickets in China. After taking the president of Shenzhen Airlines, he formed the “369 Development Plan” for the company. During his four years in Shenzhen Airlines, the company’s number of planes surpassed 130 units and the total revenue reached 15 billion yuan (USD 2.19 billion). He was thought to be one of the most executives in China because of these achievements.
But he was said to have conflicts with Li Zeyuan, the senior consultant for Shenzhen Airlines and father of current board chairman Li Mo. Even his executive rights were once taken by Li Zeyuan, leaving Li Kun the void title of president. In November 2009, Li Zeyuan was arrested by the public security department and Li Kun got his rights back.
According to the staff of Shenzhen Airlines, Li Kun played an important role in the company’s development and he “treated the employees very well”. His peers were surprised by Li Kun’s arrestment for they thought he was a good man.
