Studies have confirmed that oral sodium selenite can effectively prevent the acute onset of Keshan disease; using molybdenum fertilizer can also significantly reduce the incidence of Keshan disease. However, the mechanisms by which selenium and molybdenum prevent Keshan disease are not yet clear. Our previous studies demonstrated that the membrane permeability of rat myocardial cells fed with food from Keshan disease was significantly increased, indicating that there is a factor that causes myocardial cell membrane damage in the ward food.
