The large number of poverty-stricken traditional dwelling houses existing in the traditional villages of Yunnan and western China is very difficult to protect and develop. In response to this reality, the author put forward his thinking on how to maintain and reform: It is appropriate to adopt a “low-end” technology route that uses local materials, local techniques and local human resources to reduce costs. Based on the above discussion, this article explores the exploration of A Zheke Village in Yuanyang County in detail: the experiment of the maintenance and reconstruction of a Hani mushroom house. This paper systematically expounds the reflection after the experiment is completed: the fundamental goals and follow-up of exploration, some concepts of sustainability and replicability techniques, and the discussion of the focal issues such as the “mushroom top” form and thatch material.
