马克思的意识形态概念最早传入中国的时间是在1919年,起源于当时的中国留日学者陈溥贤(和李大钊等人)对河上肇介绍唯物史观的相关著作的节译。沿用日文译法,它最初在中文语境被表述为“观念”(20世纪20年代中后期又被表述为“观念形态”),第一个将“ideologie”直接翻译成中文“意识形态”一词的是中国人成仿吾(1927年)。这样,马克思的意识形态概念就以“译介体”的形式引入中文语境,并接下来(也即20世纪二三十年代)以“教材体”的形式进行了中文语境中的概念界定(瞿秋白)和系统理论阐释(李达)。这反映的是中国人对马克思意识形态概念的早期理解,也正是在这一过程中,同时开启了马克思意识形态概念的中国化阐释模式。
