As China, the world’s largest consumer of energy, CO2 emissions have surpassed those of the United States since 2006, making it the country with the largest CO2 emissions in the world. However, not all of the energy that China makes is spent on domestic consumption. China’s rapid development of foreign trade and trade surplus is an important reason for the continuous increase of domestic energy consumption and carbon emissions. Made in China, China is undertaking massive carbon emissions for foreign consumption through trade. Using the revised input-output analysis method, this paper estimates the implied carbon emissions of China’s imports and exports during the period 2001-2012 based on the data of customs import and export commodities. The result shows that China is a typical net exporter of implicit carbon ; The scale and technological level of exports have a significant impact on the implied carbon emissions of China’s import and export products; the sectors in China that export carbon and implicit carbon trade in trade are very concentrated.
