在我国,培养小学教师的任务一直是由中等师范学校来承担的。近些年来随着我国经济技术的不断发展与提高,国家对科学和教育提出更高的要求,因此20世纪末,全国各地区培养小学教师的中等师范学校纷纷并入高等师范院校成为其中的一个小学教育专业,但在课程设置方面,摒弃了原有的中等师范学校“综合培养,一专多能”的人才培养原则,在某种程度上削弱了小学教育人才“文理兼通、一专多能”的教学能力。基于对小学教育专业课程合理设置以及国民对语言的掌握重要性的考虑,高等师范院校的小学教育专业应该继续继承原中等师范学校之教育理念,不受分文、理方向的限制,把有关介绍汉语知识的语言课程作为通识课程广泛开设。
