1993年,一场争夺菲律宾航空事业控制权的“战争”在全菲展开,经过几个回合的较量,实力雄厚的华人实业家陈永栽获胜。他以数亿美元买下菲律宾航空公司私人股份的55.5%,成为该公司最大的私人股东。华人首次涉足有政府股参与的特大型企业,标志着在菲华人已取得与菲律宾人在地位上的平等。这件事迅速传至世界各地,被舆论界称为“华人之光。”陈永栽1943年出生于中国福建晋江,11岁时,随父亲赴菲律宾,在一家烟厂当童工。他白天干活,夜晚读书,以顽强的毅力,啃完了全部中学课程,后以优异成绩考入菲律宾远东大学化学系。毕业后,他力筹资金,创办起一座工厂,专门生产为香烟配料的香料。他把数家专业工厂的资料找来反复筛选,各取其长,创造出一套全新的生产工艺,产品的各项技术指标达到新的水平,订货量逐月上升。
In 1993, “War”, which competed for control over the Philippine aviation industry, was launched in the Philippines. After several rounds of competition, Chen Yongzhao, a mighty Chinese industrialist, won the battle. He bought 55.5% of Philippine Airlines private shares for hundreds of millions of dollars, becoming the company’s largest private shareholder. For the first time, the Chinese have been involved in the very large-scale enterprises with the participation of government stocks, marking the equalization of status with the Filipinos already won by Chinese in the Philippines. The incident quickly spread all over the world and was known by the media as “the light of the Chinese.” Chen Yongzhao was born in Jinjiang, Fujian Province, China, in 1943, and when his 11-year-old father went to the Philippines to work as a child laborer at a tobacco factory. He worked daytime, night studying, with indomitable perseverance, eating all the high school courses, with excellent results admitted to the Department of Chemistry, Far East University. After graduation, he worked hard to raise money to set up a factory specializing in the production of spices for cigarettes. He used several professional factories to find repeatedly selected materials, each taking the lead, to create a new production technology, product specifications reached a new level, the order volume increased month by month.
