Gary Snyder is a contemporary wilderness poet in the United States, with profound and unique wilderness ideas and rich wilderness practices. The concept of wilderness integrates China and the West, which not only inherits the concept of the wilderness in the West but also innovates in the oriental culture. It emphasizes the value of the wild and the role of the individual. The concept of “the wilderness is the place” reflects the influence of Chinese culture. Snyder’s wilderness practice is a way of using the body to perceive the world and is a ritualized act of establishing a non-conquest with all things in nature. Snyder life both resentment of the wilderness, but also the feelings of WTO. He devoted himself to the environmental protection movement and advocated the cultural reconstruction actively. He also put forward a series of propositions to save the modern ecological crisis such as “local culture”.
