A new technique for coiled tubing towing is introduced. This technique uses a fluid-powered turbine to drive the hydraulic system so that the tractor drives the coiled tubing to move forward. The field application of this new technology shows that the new type of tractor increases the penetration of coiled tubing into horizontal branch wells and increases the success rate of operations. Field work results show that the use of coiled tubing pullers in conjunction with the right well selection, design and planning can significantly increase the footage of coiled tubing in casing and open eyes.
